    Stafford, NJ was originally formed by Royal Charter from portions of Shrewsbury Township in 1750. At this time, the land still belonged to Monmouth County until 1798 when it became part of the newly-formed Ocean County, NJ. Stafford Township, New Jersey is now a large area of 54.8 square miles with a population of 26,535 residents. Along with Ship Bottom borough, Stafford Township is also nicknamed at a "gateway to Long Beach Island." The current mayor of Stafford, NJ is John Spodofora.
